The UWG Certified Nursing Assistant Program is approved through the Georgia Department of Community Health (GDCH) and meets standards outlined in the "Policies and Procedures for Nurse Aide Training Program (NATP)". The nurse aide course is taught in English ONLY. The course offers training to candidates that desire to become eligible for certification as a certified nurse aide (CNA). The program provides a comprehensive course to train candidates to work in all health care facilities (e.g. nursing homes, hospitals, hospice, home health, etc.). The UWG CNA course is a total of 88 hours consisting of 64 hours classroom/lab instruction, and 24 hours of clinical practice in a long-term care facility. Upon completion of the course, students will be certified to register with Pearson VUE to take the State Certification test.

The State of Georgia prohibits on-line Certified Nurse Aide Courses.

Notes:

REGISTRATION INFORMATION:
Prior to registering for this course, please be advised that if the COVID-19 Social Distancing Guidelines are still in effect, this class will be split in two (2) groups of ten (10) students. The first group will attend class on Mondays/Wednesdays (M/W), the second group on Tuesdays/Thursdays (T/Th). Students will be given the chance to submit their first choice of M/W or T/Th Classes, but in the event that any conflicts arise, final class assignments will be made with preference given to the student with the earliest course registration date. This course is a total of 88 hours of which 64 hours are classroom/lab and 24 hours are clinicals. In order to be certified to register for the State CNA Certification Test you must have completed all 88 hours. Attendance in this class every day is absolutely critical. Please review the course schedule and ensure that you have no known conflicts with any of the dates listed. If you do, you should register for another course. If you miss any instruction hours and cannot make them up, you will be offered a transfer to the next CNA course which has an open slot, or you will be given a tuition refund per our Tuition Refund Policy.

If you are currently registered to attend classes at UWG, you must enter your 917 ID number when you register. You can pay your full tuition ($895.00) or choose the UWG Student Payment Plan. The UWG Student Payment Plan allows you to pay $545.00 at time of registration and the balance of $350.00 must be paid BEFORE the first day of class.

If you are not currently registered to attend classes at UWG, you can pay your full tuition ($975.00) or choose the Non-UWG Student Payment Plan. The Non-UWG Student Payment Plan allows you to pay $575.00 at time of registration and the balance of $400.00 must be paid BEFORE the first day of class.

The registration fee covers instruction, textbook, required supplies, clinical supervision, 1 set of scrubs, a stethoscope, and name badge. Students are personally responsible for the out of pocket cost of their Advantage Students Background/Drug Check (approximately $78.50) and Certification Test Fee (currently $112.00).

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
When you receive your registration confirmation, there will be documents attached containing important information regarding our course requirements. Read all the attachments carefully and take appropriate action to meet the specified requirements. All course requirements must be completed before the first day of class and all required documents given to the CNA Instructor on the first day of class. These are State mandated requirements and failure to do so could result in you being dropped from the course. If for some reason you do not receive the attachments, you need to take immediate action. You can download the documents from the UWG CNA webpage UWG CNA or you can contact Dale Fleming at dfleming@westga.edu or 678-839-6612.

CLASS SCHEDULE:
The classroom/lab portion of the course will be conducted on Monday and Wednesday evenings (and Tuesday and Thursday if required) beginning on August 2nd through September 27th in the Murphy Building, 1st Level (Continuing Education), CNA Classroom and Skills Lab, Rooms 1130 A & B from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM each day. There will be no class on Monday, September 6th due to the Labor Day Holiday.

Clinical sessions will be conducted on Saturday, October 2nd, Sunday, October 3rd and Saturday, October 9th at a local long-term care facility off campus, conditions permitting If not, clinicals will be conducted in the Murphy Building CNA Classroom/Lab. We will schedule both morning (6:30 A.M. to 2:30 P.M.) and evening (2:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M.) clinical sessions. The class will be split equally between the morning and evening clinical schedules. We will try to take into consideration each person's needs in developing the clinical schedules. If we reach an impasse, the date a student registered for the course will determine who has preference to attend which session. The State of Georgia dictates that no CNA student may work more than one (1) eight (8) hour shift per day during clinical rotations.

Certification test dates for the course have not yet been determined. If testing cannot be offered on-site at UWG, students will have to register at a Regional Test Site (RTS) of their choice. Information will be communicated once more details are known about the COVID-19 guidelines at that time.
