A good leader is able to bring out the best abilities in their team and provide motivation to work together to achieve a shared goal. The Leadership Excellence Certificate is a 6-week course where participants will learn valuable leadership skills and techniques they can implement in their current or potential leadership role. Courses include:

  1. Leadership Styles - Learn about supervisory styles and how they can best work towards effectiveness. See how your leadership style compares and begin developing your own unique way of leading armed with knowledge about yourself and enhanced leadership skills.
  2. Delivering Constructive Criticism - Delivering criticism is one of the most challenging things for a leader. In this course, gain valuable knowledge and skills that will assist with this task and how it can be beneficial for all parties involved.
  3. Inspirational Leadership - Colleagues are inspired and motivated when they trust their leaders. Learn about characteristics that people look for in an inspiring leader, traits and behaviors that inspirational leaders exemplify, and the role of clear, credible, and persuasive messages in inspirational leadership.
  4. Effective Delegation - Delegation is one of the most important tasks of leadership. This course will discuss what effective delegation means and share strategies on how to delegate appropriately.
  5. Building Better Teams - Teams are at the core of corporate strategy. In this class discuss the value of working as a team, ways to develop team norms, ground rules and contracts, techniques for building team trust and many other valuable skills for your teams.
  6. Goal-Setting for Growth - Learn how to set goals that will make a difference in the lives of your staff, yourself and others. Discuss some of the mistakes that most people make when goal-setting and set a few strategic goals.

A certificate will be provided upon completion.

Lantz Ferrell

Lantz Ferrell is a Lecturer with the Richards College of Business at the University of West Georgia. She teaches Principles of Management, Foundations of Computer Applications and will teach a course in The Legal and Ethical Environments of Business in the summer of 2020. Her Master of Business Administration degree is from the University of North Alabama and her Bachelor of Business Administration degree is from the University of Mississippi. (She dearly loves her Ole Miss!) Before Lantz began teaching with the university, she served as an Educational Program Specialist in eCore Testing and also taught middle and high school classes for over ten years.
