The UWG Certified Nursing Assistant Program is approved through the Georgia Department of Community Health (GDCH) and meets standards outlined in the "Policies and Procedures for Nurse Aide Training Program (NATP)". The nurse aide course is taught in English ONLY. The course offers training to candidates that desire to become eligible for certification as a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA). The program provides a comprehensive course to train candidates to work in all health care facilities (e.g. nursing homes, hospitals, hospice, home health, etc.). The UWG CNA course is a total of 88 hours consisting of 64 hours classroom/lab instruction, and 24 hours of clinical practice in a long-term care facility. Upon completion of the course, the names of those students successfully meeting all requirement of the course will be forwarded to Pearson VUE to provide them the opportunity to register to take the State CNA Certification test.

The State of Georgia prohibits on-line Certified Nurse Aide Courses.

The CNA course is a total of 88 hours of which 64 hours are classroom/lab and 24 hours are clinicals. You must complete all 88 hours to be certified to register for the State CNA Certification Test. Attendance in this class every day is absolutely critical. Please review the course schedule carefully and ensure that you have no known conflicts with any of the class dates. If you do, you should evaluate whether another of our courses would better fit your schedule. If you miss any instruction hours and cannot make them up, you will be offered a transfer to the next CNA course which has an open slot or a tuition refund per our Tuition Refund Policy.

In order to qualify for the UWG Student rate, you must be registered to attend classes at UWG and have been assigned a 917 ID Number. If you are classified a UWG Student, please enter your 917 ID number when you register. You can pay your full tuition ($925.00) or choose the UWG Student Payment Plan. The UWG Student Payment Plan allows you to pay $575.00 when you register and the balance of $350.00 must be paid before the first day of class.

If you are not currently registered to attend classes at UWG, you can pay the full Non-UWG Student tuition ($995.00) or choose the Non-UWG Student Payment Plan. The Non-UWG Student Payment Plan allows you to pay $595.00 when you register and the balance of $400.00 must be paid before the first day of class.

The registration fee covers course instruction, textbook, necessary supplies, clinical supervision, 1 set of scrubs, a stethoscope, and a name badge. Students are personally responsible for the out of pocket cost of their Advantage Students Background/Drug Check (approximately $78.50), a Professional Liability Insurance Policy for clinicals (approximately $40.00), and the Certification Test Fee (currently $112.00).

When you receive your registration confirmation, there will be documents attached containing important information regarding course requirements. Please read all the attachments carefully. Course requirements must be addressed before the first day of class and all required documents given to the CNA Instructor on the first day of class. If for some reason you do not receive the attachments when you register, you can download the documents directly from the UWG CNA webpage UWG CNA or you can contact Dale Fleming at or 678-839-6612.

The classroom/lab portion of the course will be conducted from Saturday, January 22nd through Saturday, March 12th in the Murphy Building, 1st Level (Continuing Education), CNA Classroom and Skills Lab, Rooms 1130 A & B from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM each day.

COVID conditions permitting, Clinical sessions will be conducted at a Long-Term Care Facility on Saturday, March 19th, Saturday, March 26th, and Sunday, March 27th. We will schedule both morning clinicals (6:30 A.M. to 2:30 P.M.) and evening clinicals (2:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M.) The class will be split equally between the morning and evening clinical schedules. We will try to take into consideration each person's needs in developing the clinical schedules. If we reach an impasse, the date a student registered for the course will determine who has preference to attend which session. The State of Georgia dictates that no CNA student may work more than one (1) eight (8) hour shift per day during clinical rotations.

***Be advised that the Long-Term Care Facility that we utilized for clinicals for the last two (2) CNA courses in 2021 would not allow CNA students to enter their Facility without providing proof that they had had a COVID Vaccination. They also required a temperature check before entering the Facility and a mask had to be worn at all times while in the Facility. These were not UWG requirements. These were Facility requirements. These were not intended to be punitive in nature, but were put in place by Facility Management in compliance with their obligation to provide the greatest protection possible for the patients housed in their facility. We have no choice but to honor such requirements. You do not have to take the COVID Vaccination before the course starts. You can choose to wait until after the course starts and we know more about the COVID situation at that time. But, be advised that you must comply with any mandates in force at the time your clinicals start or your only option will be to drop the course. At that time, any refund you receive would be based on our Tuition Refund Policy. Please take this into consideration before registering for one of our CNA courses.***

Certification test dates for this course have not yet been determined. If testing cannot be offered on-site at UWG, upon completion of the course, students will have to register at a Regional Test Site (RTS) of their choice. Information will be communicated once more details are known concerning the COVID-19 guidelines at that time.
