Do you love reading, writing, designing, making, thinking, asking, and doing? This camp is for you! Students will practice developing their skills as writers and designers while working together in an active and engaged environment to produce a book on topics of interest to them and the community. Students will write and illustrate stories with encouraging, positive guidance. The book will be available to share with friends and family in time for the holidays! Sign up for fun, creative, and active learning!

Ages: Rising 6th Graders through 12th Graders. The camp curriculum is designed for youth in middle through high school. Please register in the name of the child/student attending the camp.

Registration Fee: Camp registration includes expert instruction, rich materials, and hands-on activities. Campers should bring a ready to eat lunch.

Location: UWG Newnan

Time: 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Youth Waiver: Upon registration, participant's parent/guardian should complete the online Minors in Sponsored Programs Participant Waiver Form.

Cancellation and Refund Policy: (Refund deadline is: 5 Business Days before the Session Start or the Monday prior to the Monday Session Start) A refund less a $10.00 administrative fee per camper per session will be issued upon notification by e-mail continuewest@westga.edu on or before deadline. Transfer requests to another session will be granted at the discretion of the Wolves Exploration Camp Program Manager. Failing to notify UWG Continuing Education using guidelines listed above, the University will retain all registration fees.

Driving Directions to UWG Newnan, 80 Jackson Street, Newnan, Georgia 30263: From Carrollton: Travel south on Highway 16 (US Route 27 Alt - not Hwy. 27) for approximately 22 miles. You will pass through a small community called Whitesburg. Continue traveling south. Approximately 12 miles south of Whitesburg, you will arrive at your first stop light. Continue through this set of lights on GA-16E/US 27 ALT S/Newnan Road. Take a left onto Carmichael Street and follow signs to front parking lot.
From Atlanta: Travel Interstate 85 south to Exit 47. At exit ramp turn right onto Highway 34 also known as Bullsboro Drive. Travel on Bullsboro Drive for approximately 3 miles. Bear right onto Clark Street/US 29N/US 27 Alt N/GA-16/GA-34 and take the first right onto Jackson Street/US-29N/GA-14. Our campus is ahead on the left.

Melissa Jackson

Melissa Dickson Jackson teaches writing and American Literature. She also writes feature articles and participates in cultural and community events. Her work has appeared in Thrive Magazine for the Coweta Chamber of Commerce, Newnan Coweta Magazine, and Lifestyles magazine. She has published two collections of poetry, Cameo (2011) and Sweet Aegis, Medusa Poems (2013). Her poems can be found in Bitter Southerner, Shenandoah, North American Review, Southern Humanities Review, Cumberland River Review, Southern Women's Review, Literary Mama, and Gravy from the Southern Foodways Alliance at the University of Mississippi. She served as the associate editor of Stone, River, Sky: An Anthology of Georgia Poems released by Negative Capability Press in 2015. The University of Georgia Press collection Vinegar and Char (2018) includes her work. Melissa lives in Newnan with her husband, four children, two cats, a beta fish, and a leopard gecko named Beans.
