In American Sign Language II, participants will continue their study of manual communication and deaf culture. Participants will learn more signs, practice finger-spelling, and exercise ASL grammar and vocabulary skills in order to better express ideas. This course is instructed by Aleah Brock, M.Ed., CCC-SLP (UWG Faculty).
Course Objectives are as follows:
1) Demonstrate receptive and expressive ASL skills on a beginner/intermediate level,
using ASL grammatical structures and storytelling conventions
2) Identify characteristics of manual communication and Deaf culture
3) Reflect continued learning of American Sign Language
Please note: This course is designed for participants with prior exposure and experience using ASL. Suggested prerequisites are as follows:
*Beginner level expressive and receptive fingerspelling skills
*Beginner level expressive and receptive sign vocabulary (200-300 words)
*Beginner level understanding of ASL grammatical structures

Aleah Brock
Aleah Brock is an instructor and clinical supervisor in the Communication Sciences and Disorders program at the University of West Georgia. Aleah completed her bachelor's degree in communication disorders at Auburn University and her master's degree in speech language pathology at The University of West Georgia. She previously worked as a speech language pathologist at the Georgia School for the Deaf and is fluent in American Sign Language. She has also worked in the hospital and home health care settings with adult and geriatric populations.Currently, Aleah serves as an Early Intervention Specialist for Georgia PINES SKI-HI program, where she provides in-home services focused on language development with deaf/hard-of-hearing children from birth to three. Aleah holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA), and is licensed as a speech language pathologist in the state of Georgia. Her clinical and research interests are primarily focused on the speech and language development of Deaf children, both spoken and signed. In her free time (when she has it), she enjoys music, reading, college football, and spending time with her children. Aleah is currently working toward her PhD in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Georgia, with research focusing on factors that contribute to early language development in deaf and hard-of-hearing children.
