UWG Certified Nursing Assistant
IF YOU CHOOSE THE PAYMENT OPTION, YOU MUST PAY $325.00 AT TIME OF REGISTRATION AND THE REMAINING BALANCE BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS . CNA classes will be conducted on Saturdays, August 3rd through September 28th in the Murphy Building - Room 314 from 8:00 AM until 4:30 PM. We will skip the weekend of August 31st due to the Labor Day weekend. Clinical sessions will be on Saturdays October 5th, 12th and 19th. Certification Test dates for this class are tentatively set for Thursday, November 14th and Friday November 15th. Points of Interest: 1. You MUST bring a copy of a photo ID (typically a government issued drivers license) and government issued (original, non-laminated) Social Security Card on the first day of class. 2. You MUST initiate your TB test no later than August 5th. If you are a UWG student, this can be done at the Health Services Department, Mon - Wed before 4:00 PM for free or you can get it done elsewhere at your own expense. 3. You MUST initiate your drug/background check no later than August 5th. This should be done through Advantage Students at www.advantagestudents.com. The cost for this is $78.50. (THIS FEE MAY BE HIGHER AND REQUIRE MORE TIME FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS). You should choose "University of West Georgia - Continuing Education" when given a choice of schools. DO NOT select University of West Georgia - School of Nursing! Your Drug/Background check results MUST be complete prior to October 5th or you WILL NOT be allowed to participate in the clinical portion of the course, and you will most likely be rescheduled for a future course. 4. You ARE NOT PERMITTED to miss any classroom, lab or clinical hours. There are NO makeup hours available. If you miss any hours, you will most likely be rescheduled for a future class. 5. Students are required to bring a watch with a second hand for use during the course and during the certification test at the end of the course. The UWG Certified Nursing Assistant program is approved by the State of Georgia. The course is a total of 88 hours consisting of 31 hours classroom instruction, 33 hours lab and 24 hours of clinical practice at a nursing home.
The registration fee covers instruction, textbooks, required supplies, clinical supervision, 1 set of scrubs, a stethoscope, name badge, and the state exam fee.
Students must initiate a background check before the first day of class through Advantage Students at a cost of approximately $78.50. If you have lived in states other than Georgia, or if you have lived/worked outside of the United States, there may be additional fees for international searches and it may require more time to complete your check. Students must also bring a copy of the results of a PPD (TB) test to the first day of class. If you have previously taken a TB test, the results must be current within one calendar year of the scheduled clinical dates for this course.
