Course Description


The Professional Writing Certificate Program is a series of three online courses designed to provide students with a solid foundation in an array of business and professional writing topics. It is ideal for small business owners, entrepreneurs, and those currently in or aspiring to entry-level communications roles, including beginning or aspiring freelance writers. It is not a creative or fiction-writing series. Students will finish each course with a set of portfolio documents and will compile a portfolio as the series capstone project.

Professional Writing One is the first of three courses within the Professional Writing Certificate Program. Students pursuing the Certificate must start with Professional Writing One as it is a prerequisite for Professional Writing Two. Professional Writing One and Professional Writing Two are prerequisites for Professional Writing Three. The courses are instructed 100% asynchronously online or entirely at a distance. Participants will complete weekly modules on their own schedule.

Professional Writing Two focuses on writing to instruct, which includes procedures, training manuals, quick guides, instructional audio/video scripts, etc., as well as writing to persuade, which includes all forms of marketing writing including web, social media, brochures, ads, and commercials. It also addresses crossover pieces. Professional Writing Two is a 6-week course with 10 hours of online instruction.

The Instructor:
Maggie Worth
is an author, speaker, business strategist, trainer, and freelance writer. She's also a reader, life learner, dog schmuck, hair flower obsessionist, foodie, Oxford comma defender, life-integrationist and champion of thinking differently. During her 20-year career, she's drafted literally hundreds of process manuals, press releases, how-tos, business plans, and lifestyle and career articles, as well as two textbooks and several award-winning marketing pieces and video scripts. She's also multi-published in genre fiction and is working on a guide to strategic thinking in business and life.
